BUILDING BRIDGES | CREATING PARTNERSHIPS | TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES

“Only when we come together will we discover the power of WE!” Together WE! will build strategic bridges upon our compassion for the community of need, in order to create effective partnerships that will bring the resources needed for systemic change, so that together we can join individuals that will transform their families and families that will transform communities.”

- Pastor F. A. Woodson

FROM UNEMPLOYED TO A $200 MILLION IMPACT

It was ten years ago that the Executive Board of Mission Birmingham called me into a meeting and said, "Frank the Executive Board has met and decided that we want to go a different direction with Mission Birmingham. We are removing you as the Executive Director effective immediately. We want you to close the office, fire the accountant, and release all of the employees." In the middle of unprecedented disaster response in Alabama, twelve more families were now unemployed.

In less than an hour, calls went out to local Disaster Response agencies from a liaison with the Birmingham Mayor's Office, "Frank Woodson has been removed as the Executive Director of Mission Birmingham," and advising them to no longer work with me.

"Trusting in God does not mean that you will never face the disappointments that impact all men and women." FAW

MISSION ALABAMA IS BORN

Since leaving United Parcel Service in 1999, I had learned a lot about Birmingham, Alabama from the experiences that God entrusted to me. We would use those experiences from Leadership Birmingham, The BluePrint Birmingham Steering Committee, The Mayors' Prayer Breakfast, and more to build a new organization. When our team came together, I presented the idea to the team for us to rise up and build around what God was doing in responding to the need of the families living in the Birmingham region and beyond. Within five days of being fired, we launched the organization that is today... Mission Alabama.
